I arrived to the EF campus of New York on september 23rd and I am staying here until february 9th, therefore I’m staying here for 20 weeks. This is my 14th week and my experience here has been good.

When I was in Chile I was so excited because I was going to do an exchange but when I arrived here my point of view changed. During the first week the only thing that I did in my free time was cry. I was so sad because my life was different. I missed my family, my friends, the food, my bed, etc. Later everything started to be easier. I accepted that this is my new life just for 20 weeks and after that I go back to Chile. Thinking about that helped me a lot. Now I have adapted to life here, but of course I’m still missing a lot of things.

I think that my experience her has been good because I have learned a lot of English and about differents cultures, I made new friend and also I learned some words in other languages like in German. One of the things that I like the most are the classes. I like them because I think that they are interactive and useful. That’s why I learn more here than in Chile, because here to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak Spanish I have to talk in English so my pronunciation, my speaking and my listening are better now. What I don’t like is the food. In my opinion the food that I ate in Chile is so much better than the food that I eat everyday in Rita. Also I think that the tickets of the train to go to Manhattan are so expensive. Another thing that I don’t like is the staff of Saint John’s. Last night I was walking through the hall on the first floor with 3 more friends and we didn’t do any noise or anything bad and the staff just appeared and ask us for our ID. So we had to explain them that we didn’t do anything bad and that we wanted to go to our room. So they told us that if they see us again, they would take our ID. But the rest I think that everything is good.

I think that if you are thinking about do an exchange you should think about what you like. For example I like winter and that’s why I chose New York between september and february. But if I travel with EF again I probably would choose Honolulu or San Diego because there the experience would be totally different. But I like my experience here and I have learned a lot so the exchange has been useful.
